Hot Spot of the Week: The Inside Story Bookstore & Cafe

There is nothing better than a hot cup of coffee, a comfy chair, and a great book. And how lucky are we to have a spot with ALL of those things in the same space?? I am so excited to welcome The Inside Story to our area- a bookstore & cafe that is family-friendly, delicious, and adorable!

My kids LOVED the play area- blocks & drawing supplies, plus a great selection of books to choose from. And I got to sit by and supervise while sipping a yummy mocha. Seriously- such a fun family activity!

Hot Spot of the Week: The Red Thread Kitchen

Hoschton has been in need of a good lunch spot for so long (love ya, Sliced, but a girl can't have pizza for every meal!), so Red Thread Kitchen is a WELCOME addition to downtown Hoschton. They are located just behind the Dollar General off 53 (in the spot where Tavern 53 used to be). They pride themselves on being a place where you'll want to bring Grandma for lunch, and they hit the nail on the head!

The atmosphere is truly my favorite piece; you feel like you're dining at home! Perfect for a casual lunch with friends and family or a working lunch with colleagues, you'll love the laid-back atmosphere at Red Thread. They even have a great patio area for those beautiful outdoor dining days!

Hot Spot of the Week: Linda's Kitchen

Sometimes, the BEST places are the most unsuspecting from the outside. And Linda's Kitchen fits that bill to a T! Attached to a gas station on the "rural" side of Jefferson, you wouldn't think much of it passing by... unless you saw the drive-thru line to the street! And that's pretty commonplace!

Linda's Kitchen is only open select hours/days, and only offers breakfast foods. But they are homemade, fresh, and straight from your grandma's kitchen! Basically, you can add whatever you want to a biscuit, have some eggs or hash browns, and grab a coffee or sweet tea and be on your way! My favorite is a traditional sausage biscuit with hash browns and a sweet tea! YUM!

If you haven't stopped by Linda's for a breakfast biscuit yet, you're definitely missing out!

Hot Spot of the Week- Blake's of Braselton

When my husband and I had an unexpected, kid-free date night on our hands, I jumped at the opportunity to FINALLY try Blake's of Braselton! Tucked away in downtown Braselton, Blake's is the perfect quiet date night spot!

Blake's offers small, tapas-like dishes (we shared 2 flatbreads- YUM!), desserts (the chocolate bourbon pecan pie was TO DIE FOR!), and delicious drinks in a speakeasy-type setting. Enjoy your drinks inside in comfortable chairs, in the sunroom-type area, out on the patio, or in the covered pavilion.

I loved the general feel in Blake's and the quiet atmosphere where my husband and I actually got to TALK! I know they do live music occasionally on weekends, which I'm sure would also be enjoyable. But we just loved the serenity of a kid-free evening.

Hot Spot of the Week- Huck's Cafe

I have been hearing about Huck's Cafe in Commerce for years now, specifically about their burgers! So when we happened to be in Commerce around lunch time, I knew we had to stop and give it a try!

Huck's has that small-town cafe vibe where you feel like everyone knows each other (super cool!), and all of the food is hand-made and delicious! We all opted for burgers and were NOT disappointed! You can certainly tell they were fresh and hot off the grill. YUM! We will definitely be back and look forward to trying some of their other menu items!

Hot Spot of the Week- Cozy's

In the market for a new sofa? Bedroom set? Dining room set? Mattress? You absolutely need to check out Cozy's in downtown Hoschton!

Not only are the owners super sweet and helpful, but they have a huge selection (seriously.. a whole touch screen kiosk with catalog after catalog of items!) and GREAT prices! We were able to get a new, adorable bedroom set for my toddler (headboard, footboard, rails, box springs, mattress, night stand, and dresser) for $1,300! I couldn't believe it. And they even offer delivery!

You can scope out their inventory on their website (below), hop into their store to see what they have in stock, or browse the kiosk in-store. But they are ABSOLUTELY worth a stop the next time you are in the market for a furniture upgrade!

Jackson County's Best Special Occasion Dinner Spots!

Thinking ahead to Valentines Day (which is coming up quickly, gentlemen!). I both love and dislike Valentines Day- love an excuse for a fancier dinner and time with the hubby, but dislike that it is so commercialized. But regardless, I'll stay focused on a fancy dinner! Where are your go-to spots for either Valentines Day or any other "special occasion" (not just your run-of-the-mill date night)? Check out this list of spots in & around Jackson County, and contribute YOUR FAVORITES in the comments!

Cotton Calf Kitchen– Arguably the #1 Special Occasion spot in Jackson County. Melt-in-your-mouth steaks are the highlight of the menu, along with yummy drinks and a cool atmosphere. It’s a bit pricey, but absolutely worth it for the quality of food and service! Make sure you have reservations, as it fills up quickly, ESPECIALLY on the weekends!

Latin Flavors Steakhouse- Did you know about this hidden gem in downtown Winder? Oh my! It is our go-to date night spot. Steaks are amazing, the empanadas are divine, and the desserts are superb! If you want a bit more casual, they have the rooftop for dining, and the Speakeasy in the lower level.

Antebellum- They classify themselves as "Contemporary Southern," and YUM! They put a fine dining spin on some amazing southern dishes. Drinks are delicious (there was a blueberry lemon one I tried last time that I have since tried to replicate but cannot get right!). It is a smaller, more limited menu that changes seasonally, so if you have a picky eater, it's worth checking the menu ahead of time. It's located in historic Flowery Branch in a charming old home. Space is very limited and reservations are required, so make sure to call ahead!
